The love affair with all things retro is enduring. "Hot Coral" uses a bright orange to give the retro-theme a distinctly modern, zingy feel to it, with 1950s style furnishings setting the scene. Target a big room for some serious application of vibrant orange paint – it creates a warm atmosphere.

High quality pure acrylic paints are particularly good for strong colours as the colour stays looking great for longer. Painting on a simple yet distinctive floral motif painted at dado level works well in tall rooms and adds interest. If you’re feeling less adventurous, just paint a single feature wall in this coral orange – a chimney breast, for example, or the chimney alcoves – and paint the remaining walls in a crisp white.
