Take a favourite fabric – it might be the signature stripe of a favourite fashion designer – and recreate by painting it on a feature wall to make a bold modern statement. For example, use a turquoise and lime striped furnishing fabric as inspiration for painting a feature wall. A modern chair upholstered in the same fabric creates an optical illusion in the setting. This particular style looks great in a living room but works equally well in a bedroom.

Try painting the wall behind a bed in bold vertical stripes. Alternatively paint a simple sheet of MDF with bold stripes to create a headboard – repeat the stripes of a favourite bed linen design to create a similar optical illusion.
